It all started with a journey to Naples, Italy — and a pizza that changed everything.
In 1995, founder John Soranno traveled to Naples and experienced authentic Neapolitan pizza for the first time. The simplicity of quality ingredients — 00 flour, San Marzano tomatoes, fresh buffalo mozzarella, and a 900-degree wood-fired oven — produced something transcendent. He was determined to bring that experience home.
One year later, Punch Pizza opened its first location at 3226 W Lake St in Minneapolis. The name? A nod to the bold, assertive flavors that punch you right in the taste buds. From day one, the mission was clear: no shortcuts, no compromises, no imitations.
Today, Punch Pizza is recognized as one of the finest Neapolitan pizzerias in the United States, certified by the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana — a distinction awarded to fewer than 100 pizzerias in North America.

The first Punch Pizza location opens at 3226 W Lake St in Minneapolis' Linden Hills neighborhood. A custom-built, wood-fired oven imported from Naples anchors the kitchen. Minneapolitans fall in love immediately.
Punch Pizza earns official certification from the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana (AVPN) — becoming one of fewer than 100 certified Neapolitan pizzerias in all of North America.
Demand from across the metro grows so strong that a second location opens in St. Paul's Highland Park neighborhood, bringing authentic Neapolitan pizza to the east side of the Twin Cities.
Food & Wine Magazine names Punch Pizza one of the "Top 25 Pizzerias in America." The recognition brings national attention and cements Punch's reputation as a world-class destination for pizza lovers.
After years of research with Italian flour specialists, Punch introduces its third-generation sourdough formula — a 48-hour fermented dough that produces an even more complex, digestible crust.
